Windows Media Center claims to support various common video formats including WM, WMV, ASF, M2TS, M2T, MOV, M4V, MPEG, MOD, VOB .etc, but it seems to be incompatible with TiVo files from TiVo desktop.

"Hello folks... Have anyone had any success on using TiVo Desktop to move content recording from the TiVo to a media center PC? The original file transfer (.tivo) can't be played by Windows Media Center. Do I need to encode TiVo to MP4 or other video formats?"

Windows Media Center is missing support for TiVo files. With the rising popularity of the TiVo format, this can become quite troublesome. Thus, looking for a work-around to add TiVo playback ability to Windows Media Center is much important. Fortunately, after searching online for a long time, we found a simple workaround. Since Windows Media Center can not support TiVo files natively, then we can change TiVo to Windows Media Center supported video formats like WMV or AVI with a powerful third party program.

Brorsoft Video Converter is just the right Windows Media Center Encoder which supports converting almost all kinds of media files to Windows Media Center video format on Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista, Windows XP. With it, you can add TiVo videos or other movie files into WMC without any issue. Now, download the software online and follow the guide below to start conversion.

How to Stream TiVo files into Windows Media Center

Step 1: Launch the best TiVo to WMC Converter, and then click the "Add' button to load the original TiVo medias. You can double click the video files to have a preview.

Step 2: Click on the dropdown menu of "Format" and then move your pointer to "HD Video">> "DivX HD (*.avi)" or WMV HD (*.wmv), AVI HD Video(*.avi), they are compatible with Windows Media Center.

Tip: You can adjust codec, bit rate, frame rate, sample rate and audio channel in the "Settings" interface according to your needs and optimize the output file quality.

Step 3: Tap the convert button under the preview window, the converter will start encoding TiVo for importing to Windows Media Center. Once the conversion completes, just click "Open" button to get the generated files for WMC perfectly.
