I don't want to read too much into this, as economic factors run the gamut these days, so I don't think there's a great sucking sound of advertising money going from old media to interactive media just yet. I mean, yes, it is a massive shift in the money river. W ith the old media companies, very little of it is reinvested into the actual media products, and instead gets dumped into that gaping maw called "shareholder value" anyway. Whether those companies lose ad revenue or gain ad revenue, the way the money gets spread around in that world is highly suspect, from the standpoint of good business practices and making products of value.
But the late 1990s bubble makes me inclined to distrust the whims and crap shoot wisdom of these markets and ad buyers, and a war/deficit/evaporating middle class economy I think means all bets are off. But this is interesting to think about just the same.
