The teenage years are a habit forming stage of life and in the rush to be cool or deal with the complicated modern world, smoking is an easy habit to pick up. There are over 280,000,000 Australians teens who smoke, despite all the efforts to warn them about the harms of tobacco. This shows that warning isn't enough in the fight to stop smoking-we have to understand the root causes too. Wanting to fit in and to belong are usually what a teen want and smoking will be small price to pay for it until nicotine addiction takes over. Parents should get involve early and talk to their teens the dangers of smoking and why you wouldn't want your teens to start. Provide rules to follow at home regarding smoking and be clear of consequences if they choose not to follow it. This way, the teens are aware of the punishments that will follow if ever they are found out that they are smoking.
